You may dream about remodeling or completely renovating your garage; but, when you look at the budget, you know it is not going to happen. So, how to you get that extra storage space that you need so badly? Well the first step is to develop a good garage shelving plan.
Shelving or wall-mounted racks. These are all very popular choices. Shelves are more space efficient than wall-mounted racks, but the racks are more affordable. Cabinets, although costly are an excellent choice because they protect stored items from moisture and dust - and almost always require a contractor for installation. Stackable plastic containers placed on shelves are much less expensive and also have the advantage of providing visibility of the contents.
For most people creating your own shelves and furniture may seems like too daunting a task, and luckily now there are many items on the market that are created to capture the distressed, worn look. Think timeless elegance, make use of big solid items of furniture that already have that worn, distressed look. Pay particular attention to any hardware on the furniture, you should aim to have glass or vintage ceramic knobs which will look more authentic. You want pieces that have an inviting, warm feel to them, capturing the grace and style of a bygone era.
Determine the place wherein you would like to put the storage shelf. Measure the area and the items that you would like to put on after you have completed the measurement. Keep in mind that with these measurements, you have to know the width, depth, and the distance between the shelves, kind of material and even the distance of the shelf between your ceilings.
One of the most common complaints house owners have is they don't have enough space in their rooms. Well, one way to add storage space to your home is by installing wall shelves on a vacant wall. While wall shelves are simple pieces of furniture, they are not able to support very heavy weights. So why are you buying a wall shelf? What kind of items do you need to store?
